Dumb Mean Varmints

What does that have to do with anything? you ask. The initials. DMV. urrrrrgh. I have had my drivers license for over a year now, no incidents, etc. Now with this move, we're having to switch to North Carolina licenses. Shouldn't be a big deal, right? WRONG. according to the SUUUUPER helpful woman on the phone (SARCASM SARCASM SARCASM) I not only need to bring in my license, I also need documentation to prove that I had my permit, and my certificate of completion from drivers ed. From more than a year ago. Now before you start lecturing me about how I need to save important documents, yadda yadda yadda, this is not my fault that I don't have these. When I got my Utah license almost 13 months ago, they took these documents from me. And they didn't keep them on file. We called to check. Now upon informing SUUUUPER helpful woman of this, we were told my other option is to wait to get a license until I turn 18. Or I could always take drivers ed again! urrrrrrrrgh. So much anger have I. I got the license in Utah. Utah requires a permit and drivers ed. Logic says that since I have a license, I had all that stuff. Not only logic, but also the law. but noooo, this isn't enough for those Dumb Mean Varmints in the lovely (SARCASM SARCASM SARCASM) state of NC. At this moment I would like to come home more than ever. They don't want to let me drive, they're making me take freshman level classes, and I still have basically no friends. Soooo..... that stuff everyone said about how welcoming people here are....not feelin it. Not at all. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :(

2010-2011

Pretty much every year I make a little video of pictures through the year with some relevant music. Usually I post this on facebook. This year, the facebook admins got mad because of the background music and I was unable to post it. so here is the one for my junior year.

Ta da!

Moping.... :/

I'm doing it again :/
Yeah...... but it's kinda hard not to when you're all alone and don't have anything left to keep you occupied. Also when you finished all your homework immediately after school to keep busy and keep your mind off things. I've been in school one week now, and still having a bit of trouble finding a place to fit in. Hence the moping and angsting and sitting alone in a quiet room whenever I'm not in school. And all the extra attention my homework has been getting is thanks to this. and when I say extra I mean excessive. Over the top. Way more than is necessary or normal. yep. I'm turning into a hermit. One who doesn't talk. I know right? Abbie not talking? crazy. But it's true. so I have compiled a lovely list today. (yes, I do constantly have a soundtrack in my life)

Songs That Aid My Angsting/Moping

1.This one is simultaneously depressing and mildly comforting
2.This is an old favorite for being mopey for me
3. Aaaaand the melancholy continues here
4. I have an irrational love for this man
5. This is one I am newly obsessed with
6. I have a very deep fondness for this man
7. Yes. I have entered full-on mope
8. This chick is always pretty interesting
9. The best part of this is the monkey suit.
10. This woman seems to be stalking me. all the time.

And on that miserable note, I have nothing positive to say right now, so I shall return to my angsting/moping

School Spirit

....we has it? Oh yes. Oh yes we do. I've only had 5 days of school at Cary High and things are already shaping up to be, well, different. Things like 8 buildings, and strict policies about not leaving campus, and tiny lockers, and really just hundreds of little things. The biggest thing I have noticed that is SOOO different, however, is the level of school spirit. It's incredibly, frighteningly, high. As is class spirit, especially within the senior class. Oh goodness the spirit....

First off- 2 days before school started, there was an "open campus" event where students and their families were invited to come and meet teachers, learn their way around the school, purchase lunch passes, etc. On this day there was a senior table I was sent to. Not only is there a senior class shirt listing all the seniors on the back, but they also handed out crowns that we were instructed to take home, decorate, and wear on the first day.
My Senior Crown
So I arrive on the first day, and it's nuts. Not only are all the speed bumps coming into the parking lot painted green and white, there are signs along the edge proclaiming "seniors 2012!" and "Seniors! Honk your horns!" Thankfully my dad didn't honk. Then the sidewalk was covered with chalk bearing similar messages, as well as our class slogan "It's better by the dozen" Whoo. There was a green and white balloon arch for the seniors to walk under, and someone filming us doing so. People painted their cars with "Senior! 2012!" etc. All for the first day of school. I can understand this kind of thing at the end, when it's graduation time and you're actually leaving school, but at the beginning of the year, not so much. It's just the first day of another year of classes, exams, and drama.

Also, in general school spirit is crazy high. People wear green and white constantly, and are always in Cary High shirts of some variety. The local water tower has "Class of 2012" painted on it. And at the local Rite Aid, you can purchase a plethora of Cary High items, including but not limited to- rain jackets, pajama pants, teddy bears, water bottles, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and gym shorts. At the class meeting, the amount of cheering and school spirited-ness was scary. I don't understand why everyone is always so excited about the school, or why every bulletin board or club poster on campus has to somehow make a word play using the mascot of the "imp". Really? IMPressive just makes my groan. "impin ain't easy" is a terrible spirit shirt slogan. argh.

Basically this all boils down to- It's high school. Not college. High school is a means to an end. You get in, get it done, get out, and get on with your life. If the senior year of high school is the best year of your life, that's just sad. And the color green of the cafeteria makes me feel a little ill. Too much, people. Save the spirit for college, when you actually choose where you go, as opposed to the state government choosing for you!!

Here ends my rant on school spirit :P
Rants to come: freshmen, busy work, and oh so much more ;)

2 Weeks

That's right. As of tomorrow, I have been in my new town for 2 whole weeks. Whew. Those two weeks have taken FOREVER to go by, and we've had an earthquake and a hurricane. In the same week. My family and I are fortunately unharmed and it's all good. What we have not conquered however is unpacking. We've done so much of it and yet there are boxes ALL OVER which makes me thing back fondly to this list. Yeah, still not so fond of cardboard boxes, BUT there are.....

Things I Have Become Fond of Here

1. The food. Southern food=win
2. Everyone's nice
3. My cat is friendly now. Like will let me hold him!
4. The classes are incredibly easy
5. My room is more spacious here
6. My counselor was super easy to talk into changing my schedule
7. Did I mention the food?
8. The humidity is good for my skin
9. The debate team has been treating me like a princess :)

Things I'm Not So Fond of Here...

1. The humidity. It wreaks havoc with my hair and makes the air just feel too thick
2. The high school has 8 buildings and it's crazy easy to get lost
3. The amount of school spirit is terrifying
4. There is no dance or DECA
5. The only radio stations I can get clearly in my room are an Indian station, and a couple oldies and easy listening
6. It's insanely hot....
7. I don't really know anyone
8. No mountains. What they call mountains look more like hills to me
9. SO MANY THUNDERSTORMS :/
10. The streets are all curvy and change all the time what they are and it's crazy easy to get lost
11. We have oh so many natural disasters
12. It's so far away from everyone!!! Blargh!

Ah well. only about 50 more weeks to go, then it's COLLEGE TIME :P
